Lamb and Turnip Stew with Gruyere Toast, inspired by the book 'The Great Hunt' by Robert Jordan.

The Great Hunt: Lamb & Turnip Stew

In The Great Hunt there is a particular scene where Rand is on a journey with several others and they decide to make camp for the night. One individual makes the party a stew over the campfire, and Rand goes to get a bowl when a small, unfriendly exchange happens between the person serving the stew, Rand, and one other individual. This recipe is based off of a 4,000 year-old Babylonian recipe.

The Faded Dragon book cover, by Cameron Michaels

Book Review: ‘The Faded Dragon’ by Cameron Michaels

The Faded Dragon is the debut novel from Cameron Michaels, and first in the Twin Worlds Saga series. Michaels has created a very interesting high fantasy world, where dragons and elves have battled, humans currently rule the lands and enslave the Takarhn. There are a few different tropes within the book, including one of my personal favorites, The Chosen One. There were a couple plot points that I didn’t care for as much, like an obvious twist, and the dialogue needs a bit of refinement to make it more natural. Overall, I think this is a very strong debut novel and recommend it to those who enjoy fast-paced high fantasy books.

Book Review: ‘Babel: An Arcane History’ by R.F. Kuang

Babel by R.F. Kuang made me feel a range of emotions. It made me uncomfortable and frustrated at political and social justice issues. It made me long for the friendships I gained while in school, and the carefree days we would have. It made me ache for the characters and the numerous situations they were put in, and the realization of why they were put in them. Babel made me want to learn every language ever recorded, and then Babel made me also realize I am too old and unfocused. It made me root for certain characters, it made me tense when I thought they were going to be hurt, it made me want to punch others in the face.
